The Trust has been asked by the Board and Teachers of the Himalayan Public School in Manila to fund an extension of 5 new classrooms, a teacher’s office plus toilet and washing facilities. Currently the school consists of 2 very run down buildings that house 4 classrooms in one and 2 in another. At present the washing facilities are not fit to be used and all the rooms are in a very poor state of repair. With funding, we will ensure these are upgraded to a higher standard. The increase in size will also enable numbers to rise to 150 and allow children from surrounding villages, where there are currently no schools, to attend. The school is not funded by the Education Department so the teachers do not receive a salary. Instead they are paid a small contribution from the school fees (equivalent to £3 a month, although the poorest children do not pay any fees).
