Buried amongst the shops of this little Himalayan town, Lotus Flower Trust first discovered Garur School In March 2016. It was very basic and built around old chicken sheds! But the management team, the teachers and the children were very impressive. The school was in desperate need of an upgrade and additional classrooms in order to accommodate the children safely. Our Indian supporters, Delhi Duty Free, funded the first build and a further extension of classrooms. The school was re-opened on 16th October 2019. It is now an impressive school for very poor children living in this area of the foothills of the Himalaya. The school receives very little support from the local Government.

The 230 children attending the school are very studious. It is a fact though that children from such backgrounds stand next to no chance, when they leave school, of getting jobs without good English, Mathematics and Computer Skills. There is no doubt the teachers can take care of the English and Mathematics, but poor schools like this one cannot afford computers for the children, and it would be impossible for parents to provide them. They just don’t have the money. A large percentage of the children can’t even afford the meagre school fees - they are subsidised by those that can.

Lotus Flower Trust would like to provide a Computer Laboratory for the children. This would include: 10 computers, 2 x Laptops for teachers, 10 x Desktop Furniture, a projector, a printer and an electronic white board, all totalling £ 11,000.

Would you consider donating towards a Computer Laboratory for these children? This would help provide these very deprived children an opportunity to raise their level of education, making them more employable and able to escape the cycle of poverty.
