Akaash Ganga River of Stars

The Akaash Ganga Home was built by Fulcrum, John Hunt was its founder, for the destitute children who live on or near the Little Rann of Katchchh. It is spelt right! The home is now looked after by the Lotus Flower Trust and the Zaminar af Zainibad, Dan Raj Malik. There are 45 little children there, 40 girls and 5 boys.

These are the children of our home called Akaash Ganga. Dhanraj, who looks after the running of the home is sat in front on the right. The children were as pleased to see us again as we were to see them. Healthy and regular eating is certainly helping them.

On our last night with the children of Akaash Ganga they performed a series of beautiful dances for us. It is things like this that make it all worthwhile. Very tearful too, on both sides!

Born into poverty

One night in the Amadabad market, the night before Divali, we saw this little girl and 80 other beggars sitting on the floor outside some small cafes. They were waiting for some one to give them 10 rupees each to get a meal. For less than £10 we were able to feed them all ....quite a tear jerking experience which affected our team for a long time. This little girl reflects all that is wrong in society. It is very distressing to imagine just what the future may hold for her...

Educate a girl....

and you educate a family. We do not expect everything to change overnight. These are some of the first girls from any family to be educated, they may continue in the old ways after schooling, but hopefully their children, or their children's children will really start to see the benefit of education and then, maybe, things will start to change for the better.
