Lotus Flower Trust projects
- Akaash Ganga Home for Destitute Children, Gujerat. Unlike most of our projects this home is funded by Lotus Flower Trust and looks after the lives of 50/60 young boys and girls, providing them with a home life and a good education.
- Shuchakul Boys Home. This home for 50 young "monklets" was built, sponsored by "People=Positive", in the late summer of 2009 by a team from the sponsors. It is accessible for only a few months of the year. Six new pictures taken July 2010 by John.
- Kalu Sidh School The small school was funded by "Duty Free News International" and completed during November 2009.
- Saboo Ayu Nunnery This completed project is home to young nuns and provides a warm home and place of worship.
- Akaash Ganga Shankool The renovation of these premises, a former elephant house and an old school, will provide a skills centre for local youngsters to learn a trade so they will stand less chance of becoming "educated unemployed". The project is funded by "Tax Free World Association" and completion is anticipated in February 2010.
- Tarsaal Primary School, Utteranchal. This school, funded by Winchester College, will be built high in the mountains, near to Nanda Kot, and will provide much needed school accommodation for the local children. This will be a 2/3 visit project for the sponsors. The first visit in March 2010 has been successfully completed, see the work done by Winchester College in the new "Image Gallery"
- Akaash Ganga Home for Destitute Girls, Kapkote. 79 girls, living a two large, and very cold, rooms. All washing facilities are outdoor. It is hoped that, once funding is confirmed, that a large new building can be constructed during the Autumn of 2010.
- Jalal Gaon Primary School, Ramnagar. A new building, which will replace the existing one, will have four classrooms, a teachers room and a proper kitchen. The present building is only made of mud and is falling down, so will be demolished. There are, at present, 35 children at the school who come from Jalal Gaon and the surrounding villages.
- Saakan Pur Primary&Middle School, Corbett National Park. Funding for this new school has been given by "Duty Free News International" with completion in the spring of 2010. School numbers for male students are low in this area because lots of the boys work as labourers in the fields. It is hoped that a new school and the promise of a good education will attract more boys.
- Deban School&Community Centre. Situated in the north-east of India this project has been hampered by political concerns but will always be a much needed facility.
- Saboo Ayu Nunnery, the next phase. So great has been the success of the original nunnery that there is a need for an extension to allow for numbers to increase three fold. It is already the centre of Buddhist learning for women in Ladakh.
- Togdan Rinpoche Home&School, Ladakh. This home and school for 100 destitute children has funding kindly given by "Tax Free World Association". Built on land donated by Togdan Rinpoche, it will provide schooling that was not previously available. It will be built in the summer of 2010.
- English Language Centre, Stok, Ladakh. Funded by "Tax Free World Association" this will be our most ambitious project to date. A centre to teach and learn English for up to 300 students a year.
